maroon bells
Today I had one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. I went hiking in the Maroon Bells Wilderness Area. The Maroon Bells is a pair of peaks made of loose, reddish rock (actually, some of the mountains surrounding them are much more reddish in hue). They tower at least 4000 feet above the valley floor.
This morning I boarded a shuttle that drove me up to the wilderness area, with a little commentary on the Bells and the wilderness area by the bus driver. It was raining when I got there, so I bought a poncho ($5). It cleared up beautifully about 45 minutes into the hike (the weather changes VERY quickly here).
I started hiking up to Crater Lake which is at 10,000 feet. It took me a while, not because it was so long of a hike (3.6 miles round-trip), but because it was so beautiful. I couldn't just walk right through it...I had to stop and admire the beauty of what God had created. So many beautiful flowers, trees, waterfalls, streams, lakes. I truly have never seen anything like it before.
The other magnificent part of the day was completely orchestrated by the Lord (as, one would suppose, was the first part). I caught up with 3 hikers (a lady and her daughter and son-in-law) while I was hiking out. We exchanged pleasantries, and they found out that I went to BJU. The woman told me that she had used BJ homeschool curriculum to educate her daughter. She found it particularly interseting that my mum works at the press. Then I found out that they are Christians and that she goes to Bethlehem Baptist in Minneapolis. We had some really nice fellowship on the trail back, and they took me out to lunch at a great Pizza place in Aspen Highlands. It was so nice to meet such nice people in such a nice place. Altogether, It's been a pretty fantastic day.
I wish I could post all my pictures for you, but I'd be here all night.
Here are some of the better ones:

Beautiful! The beauty of the rockies is more rugged than that of the Alps. It reminds me a bit of the Alps, though. I'm so glad we serve a God that creates such beautiful things for us to enjoy. Thanks for sharing!
